Roll Call – Volume 01

After a year’s worth of planning, I’m excited to finally unveil Roll Call – a new, quarterly photography show that celebrates honest photography, and gives an unfiltered look at the photographic processes from some of Vancouver’s finest photographers.

The premise of the show is pretty straight forward; on the day of the show, photographers will each be given a roll of slide film and have 8-hours to capture all 36 frames. Then the rolls will be collected, processed, and projected in their entirety that same evening. I’m sure that similar events have been done in the past, but I suspect that there aren’t many being put on anymore – the cost of film and scarcity of processing options makes it an ambitious undertaking. The last lab in Vancouver (and all of Western Canada?) with the ability to process and mount 35mm slide film happens to be a small London Drugs PhotoLab in East Vancouver, and processing usually takes a week. Thankfully London Drugs has come through as a sponsor, and will process everything for us in 2-hours, making this event possible.

Our first Volume of Roll Call is this Friday at 7e7 Atelier St. George. For full event details, and participating photographer bios, check out www.rollcallvancouver.com – you can also find the Facebook event page Roll Call Vancouver.
